Often schools cannot afford to hire a full-time librarian, but funds are available for special programming. Research has shown that academic achievement is accelerated when students are exposed to a sound library program. Off-the-Shelf offers short term specialized programs to give students some of the benefits of a full library curriculum.

Off-the-Shelf is a full service educational consulting firm. In addition to traditional tutoring, we offer workshops designed to give students an exciting and entertaining way to learn how to access, evaluate, and process information from print and non-print sources.

Off-the-Shelf offers the following courses in information literacy:
  • Doing the Dewey
  • Reference Tools and How To Use Them
  • Which Search Engine To Use When
  • When Is the Internet My Last Resort?
  • Now I Have the Information, What Do I Do With It?
  • "T'ain't Necessarily So!"
  • Presentation, Presentation, Presentation

In addition, Off-the-Shelf can design custom programs to provide literature or research based activities for units on the community, U.S. history, ancient civilizations, ecology, local history and geography, or any other part of your curriculum. Other programs that can be tailored to fit your needs are literature for various holidays, tales from Shakespeare, history or geography units, community helpers, science programs, math in literature, and seasonal units. I will be happy to work with you to determine the programs that will best enhance your curriculum.
